The Onion

It seems more and more these days, with the internet now so prevalent in our lives, that we're constantly bombarded with news, news, news! It be important and interesting at times but other times it seems like everybody is simply saying the world is gonna end. That's why I love The Onion. They take all the heavy ideas and doomsday scenarios of terrorist countries with rogue nuclear warfare and somehow make it funny. They're a like a funhouse mirror placed up against the way the world works. It's a great laugh and really wonderful read.

Slashed Ticket Prices Allow Lesser Nobility To Attend Yankees Games

RELATED ARTICLES
Yankees Bury Bernie Williams Under New Stadium For Good Luck
04.17.08
Nationals Book It After Foul Ball Accidentally Smashes Capitol Rotunda
05.08.08
NEW YORK—Dukes, barons, viscounts, and earls are applauding the Yankees' recent decision to cut prices on dugout and foul-line field-level seats in half, from as much as $2,500 per game down to an amount the minor houses consider far more reasonable.

"Naturally I am quite pleased to attend my very first Yankees game, a spectacle that my merely adequate standing had until now denied me," said His Lordship the Duke-Chancellor of Arkengarth-upon-Settle, who often listens to Yankees games on satellite radio while tending to his 683-square-mile estate in Wales. "Until now, I have had to satisfy my sporting curiosity in less costly arenas, often hosting three-day fox hunts or airplane races upon the grounds of our family estate. But by mortgaging only half my landholdings, I am finally able to see the Yankees play the Red Sox."

"It is truly magnificent," said His Serenity the Archduke of Lesser Saxony, watching Joba Chamberlain struggle against energized Boston hitters. "Though the Duchess and I would often speak of seeing a Yankees game one day, somehow our ticket money was always being spent to build a cathedral or launch a fleet of ships. When we were given this opportunity, we thought, 'Well, what's one less cask of jewels in the treasury?'"

Though they are one of the most legendary teams in sports, the Yankees have often struggled with the perception among the landed gentry that they are unfriendly to those who fall beneath the rank of Prince-Consort, are further back than 15th in line to the throne, or cannot trace their lineage back to Queen Boudicca.

"They certainly are caught up in their history," said Her Preeminence the Contessa Lady Persephone-Fontlesbury du Wadicourt, whose 19-times-great uncle was given his lands, coat of arms, and title by King Philip VI for his role as a footman at the Battle of Crécy, and whose castle doubles as a national museum. "Witness the monument garden and those retired numbers. And the statuary! Really, it's all a bit ostentatious, if I'm honest."

Lady du Wadicourt's peers agreed. "I know that part of what I'm paying for is the Yankee mystique, but seriously, even at half-off, this is a bit ridiculous," said Raja Nuur Perak Ismaramudsa, who by tradition is descended from the ancient god of fire whose ribs formed the Indonesian islands that he governs from an alabaster and onyx palace. "There's a limit to how much your mythology lets you ask of a person, and the Yankees are really pushing it."

"Especially with A-Rod and [Jorge] Posada on the DL," the Raja added. "Between the ticket prices and the awful baseball, I'm surprised these peasants don't take up arms and overthrow the front office."

Yankees management would not comment on the price cuts, but said it was glad to see people in the seats even if they were in fact merely lesser nobility.

"The Yankees, much like the city they play in, have never cared about the size of your fortune, so long as you have one," said Hal Steinbrenner, the team's managing general partner. "Sure, we'd prefer to have the Queen Herself in the dugout seats, but if that's not possible, we'll take whoever we can get until the economy gets back on its feet."

Her Britannic Majesty the Queen of England Elizabeth II, Duchess of Lancaster and of Normandy, Lord High Commander of the United Kingdom and Defender of the Faith, has not held Yankees tickets since the spring of 1982, when they were sold to pay for the Falklands War.

At the same time when eating lunch or killing time at home before going out I'm not one to delve into anything too too heavy. Thank goodness for Listverse. Listverse explains itself in it's name frankly. It's a universe of lists. Lists about art, history, the bizarre, music, movies, people, I mean you name it and they have a list about it. I've been checking out Listverse for months and I still haven't read them all. Check it out when you get a chance.

Listverse

Here's an entry from their "10 Odd Superstitions About Food" list:

10. If a person found a loaf in this state, there would be days of discussion to guess who it might be that would be stricken down. Of course, these days we are less likely to cut our own loaves of bread, so this one is likely to die into obscurity.

FAQ

Q: How specific can I be when placing an order?

A: This and "Can you send me photos?" are by far the most frequent questions we get. We process between 30,000 and 35,000 pieces of clothing each month so it's very difficult for us to take photos of any of the items that we sell. Within those confines we also have a hard time processing too specific of requests but we do our best to get you what you are looking for. For instance: If you were to order from our Dresses category we're unable to send you only cotton dresses or only strapless dresses or dresses only from the 1950's and earlier, etc, etc. That being said, we create a style profile for all of our customers so we know the type of vibe your store has and we make every reasonable effort possible to keep your order within those bounds. The short answer is not terribly specific but we work very hard at getting you what you want.

Q: Do you wash the clothing before you ship it?

A: We do not wash the items before they leave our warehouse. That being said, anything badly stained or with any kind of "funky" smell will have already been pulled and sent to the trash already anyway. We process a lot of clothing so there is always the chance that we might miss something with a small stain on it. If it can't be addressed on your end, we highly recommend OxiClean products, just let us know and we'll replace the item in your next order.

Q: Do you sell in bundles or 12 packs?

A: We don't. Generally when you see a company selling this way it's because they are trying to force you to buy items that they don't feel stand well enough on their own. We make sure that each piece is a piece that we would sell in one of our own stores. That's why all of our orders, both Clothing Warehouse stores and not, are pulled from the same bins.

Q: Do you have a minimum?

A: No we have no minimums. You can buy as little or as much as you like of any of our categories.

Q: How do I place an order?

A: You can place an order through fax, phone or email. We recommend that the first time you place an order with us you speak to one of our sales people directly. We can be reached in our office at 404-669-9654 Monday through Friday 10am to 6pm Eastarn Standard time.

Q: Do you allow hand picking?

A: ure! The only request we have is that you make an appointment with at least 48 hours notice. When you come to our warehouse we make sure that you are the only group visiting as we know how uncomfortable it can be having someone else digging in the bin that you want to get in to or, even worse, having someone stand over your shoulder waiting to start digging in the one you are already at.

Q: Do you guys offer discounts for larger order?

A: Definitely. We don't have anything set in stone and are more than happy to discuss what you think is reasonable.

Q: What forms of payment do you accept?

A: We accept Visa, Mastercard, Paypal or Wire Transfer

Q: How do you ship?

A: For orders inside the USA we use FedEx Ground services and for international shipping we offer a variety of pricing but prefer to use Bax Global who have very competitive rates. Generally all domestic orders ship within 24 hours of being placed and international within 48 hours. After an order is placed you will receive an email with tracking information. An invoice will be sent to you through email within 24 hours of the order shipping and you will find a pick ticket in your lead package.

Q: Do you accept refunds or exchanges?

A: We do not accept refunds of any kind and we very rarely accept exchanges. We feel confident that you will be happy with each order since we go to such lengths to make sure that we're sending you items tailored to your needs. If you were ever to receive an order that you are just terribly unhappy with we have no problem reviewing the situation and discussing a possible exchange if we feel that we did not live up to the expectations we set. If you ever receive an item that has a stain or tear that we missed we'll generally replace it with no questions asked in your next order. The only time we ever balk is if it's a recurring issue or if the claim is for more pieces than our error rate would suggest. We try our best to be as flexible as possible. Check out our terms and conditions for more information.

Q: Where can I see a catalog or price list?

A: We do not currently have a catalog but you can see pictures of our categories here. Please call the office at 404-669-9654 or fill out the form here for a price list.

Q: Can you help me open my own store?

A: Definitely. We're the world's only franchised vintage clothing company and with 8 of our own stores and having opened or helped open too many others to mention we're the perfect fit for you. We've been in business since 1992 and have had the opportunity to have already made the mistakes that many new store owners are prone to make. We learned from them and we feel we have a great model to reference. We have the clothes, know the best companies to speak to for accessories and have the merchandising experience.

Q: Where Can I find your Terms and Conditions?

A: Right here.
